The inspiration for Shevata stems from a personal battle that has played out in Cole's life for years. Her sister Cindy, to whom the book is dedicated, was a victim of domestic violence homicide. "The book series started as my creative outlet when my sister was killed," says Cole. "Shevata is a strong willed woman who prevails over evil-she survives what Cindy could not. I would like to show others that good can come about when people stick together." Shevata is the furthest thing from a damsel in distress. A warrior child who has the ability to move objects with her mind, her mission is to rescue the innocent people of Gastar. The story deviates from the traditional 'young kid gets tough' angle..Shevata is already powerful but, in a unique plot twist, finds that power isn't everything. Cole creates action that is sudden and riveting with an ending that will drive you crazy waiting for the sequel.

"Shevata is a strong-willed woman who prevails over evil-she survives what Cindy could not." Shevata is the furthest thing from a damsel in distress. A warrior child who has the ability to move objects with her mind, Shevata's mission is to rescue the innocent people of Gastar. The beloved heroine survives hundreds of years of imprisonment, curses, epic battles, and demon attacks to continue on with her quest of killing Zermon, the lord of the dead, who threatens the remaining people of Gastar and human extinction as a whole. "The book does bring out what good can happen when people come together," Cole adds. "It also shows it's easy to overestimate what we fear." Many fantasy books follow a 'student, mentor, villain' formula. Act of Redemption breaks the mold with a powerful, intelligent heroine who's not in need of a knight in shining armor to rescue her. Although at times Shevata stumbles, she bravely battles the lord of the dead to save the human race and her very own existence.
Themes in Act of Redemption include:
- How Shevata stands for much more than a heroine-the ultimate strength of a woman
- The power of goodness that prevails when people work together
- A vision of a post-apocalyptic world without humans
- The importance of obeying the law, as Shevata ignoring the law in the story is what caused the trouble
- Epic battles of good versus evil-what happens when the two worlds collide
- A fantasy 'Hell' in which evil is bred C.C. Cole is a writer from rural Mississippi. Schooled in medicine, she lives in the suburbs with her family and greyhounds.
